Recycling reduces emissions of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change by using less energy to make new products and reducing incinerator and landfill emissions. Mining minerals requires vast amounts of energy. By making products from recycled materials instead of raw materials, we conserve land and reduce the need to drill for oil and dig for minerals. Recycling allows us to reuse materials and conserve natural resources while creating the products we use in our everyday lives.
Extracting materials from mines or forests is done far from the place where goods are consumed; however recycling starts in your own home. Gathering recyclables and reprocessing them for future products is done locally by people who live, work, and spend money in their own communities. When the materials that are recycled go into new products, they don't go into landfills or incinerators, thereby slowing the growth of landfills and preserving our land. For cities in densely populated areas that have to pay by the ton for their landfill usage, recycling can shave millions of dollars off municipal budgets.
In most cases, making products from recycled materials creates less air pollution and water pollution than making them from raw materials.
When waste isn't recycled, it is often burned or put in landfills which creates byproducts that pollute the environment. Runoff from landfills and fumes from fire find their way into the air, streams, rivers and oceans harming our health.
Recycling has a variety of economic impacts. Selling your scraps to us is obviously a great way to earn some extra personal cash but its economic effect doesn't stop there. The recycling process creates far more jobs than landfills or incinerators, and recycling can frequently be the least expensive waste management method for cities and towns. Economic analysis shows that recycling can generate three times as much revenue per ton as landfill disposal and almost six times as many jobs.
Scrap Rats started as a mobile company doing everything from purchasing junk cars to servicing big name corporate operations. As the company grew along with our clientele our next step was to open a convenient location for purchasing scrap metal. We opened our doors to the public mid-July of 2010.
We have a clean 15,000 square foot warehouse with easy access located on the south side of Jacksonville, Florida. Our loading dock style service makes it easy for all customers to offload their metals whether in a car, truck, or even a tractor trailer we can accommodate them all.
We have two purchasing bays each with a 5,000 pound scale and a friendly knowledgeable buyer. Our scales have been tested and permitted by the department of agriculture to ensure our customers an accurate weight every time, because we all know that even a one pound error can mean big bucks.
Our friendly staff is willing and ready to help with any questions or comments you may have. Scrap Rats is a fully licensed and insured company even when we are out servicing our commercial clients.
